April 2010

I know it's tough out there. Folks are struggling. Shanty towns are popping up in front of high-rises for some reason. It's nuts. But you've got a computer. You want it to work (or just work better). Where can you turn? Well obviously we'd love to help you out here at Stan's Tech Garage, but seeing as we have rent, insurance, salaries, and Mrs. Stan's Tech Garage's unhealthy obsession with shoes and handbags to care for, we do charge for such things. We pride ourselves in offering the best value in computer repair service in Los Angeles, but that's not what I'm here to tell you about today. The help I'm going to steer you towards today won't cost you a dime. Yup, honest to goodness free help. One of the best known, and little used resources out there are Computer User Groups. The one I'd like to highlight for you today is the MacValley User Group ( http://macvalley.org ). Based in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, they have all sorts of classes, meetings, discounts, and a slew of other benefits. They're especially helpful with the retired crowd just now getting into computers, but they're happy to help Mac users of all ages. They also offer memberships for just $25/year with a slew of additional benefits. If your looking for a great resource in your journey to learning all about what a Mac can do for you, MacValley is a great place to start. But seriously, you may just want to start off with a good, ol' fashioned Google search. Believe me, if you haven't heard of this thing, it's amazing. If you haven't, just point the old browser to www.google.com and type in some of the conditions your computer is exhibiting, and before you know it - BAM! You've got the answer to your question. It's absolutely miraculous. Sorry folks, couldn't resist. Til next time! Stan I am not a Geek. I'm your friend. And I'm here to help.
